To gain admission to Turanga Ararau you need to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. To gain entry to the programme you will need to show that you are committed to working in the primary industry.
This programme is designed to help you gain employment in a range of primary industry sectors including health and safety, farm machinery, stock work, fencing, shearing, horticulture and beekeeping. In successfully completing this programme you will be awarded the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industries Level 2 AND BE ABLE TO:
Carry out practical production tasks associated with an entry level role in a primary industry context. |
Use safe work practices in a primary industry workplace that must include 23541 and may include 19145 and 23540. |

Hours will generally be from 8.00am to 4.00pm with a lunch break of 30 minutes at 12 noon.
The on job work experience component will be the hours that are worked by the work experience provider in the agriculture industry so you can expect to be on the job working by 8am or earlier and not finishing until at least 4.00 pm—Monday to Friday.
On successfully completing this programme, depending on your selected course, you
will have the pre requisite skills, knowledge and aptitude for a range of
Primary sector qualifications at Level 3 including:

New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Vehicles, Machinery and Infrastructure) (Level 3)

On successfully completing the programme, you will have the skills, knowledge and a
recognised qualification that will enable you to work in entry-level roles in an
agriculture operation as a junior farm assistant, fencer, fencer general, shedhand,
pruner, harvester, packhouse hand, orchard worker, vineyard hand, assistant gardener,
nursery worker or assistant beekeeper depending on the course you have chosen to
study.
Once you are in employment, you can continue to upskill and complete industry qualifications through the Primary Industry Training Organisation with the support of your employer.
